Struan Community Skip – Friday 22nd February

There will be a skip at the re-cycling point from Friday 22nd February for use by Struan residents. Please do not leave anything outside the skip and do not fill it above the level of the sides as it will not be taken away. Also please note that there are many items that are not allowed in the skip (see note below). If any of these are found in the skip the community will be charged a substantial fee based on the weight of the whole skip. If this happens there will be no further Community Skips (which would be a shame).

Highland Council Visitor Levy Consultation

The Highland Council are currently conducting a consultation on Visitor Levy (known as “tourist tax”). It is probable that those of you who are involved in providing tourist accommodation will already know about this consultation but you are all urged to complete the consultation irrespective of whether you are involved in hospitality or not.

The Visitor Levy Consultation can be completed through The Highland Council Consultation Portal :
https://consult.highland.gov.uk/kpse/event/36571DFB-0F00-4D02-B386-F77464ECE61A

On the left hand side of the screen there are links to related documents that you can download, and if you click on the “GO TO EVENT” button on the upper right of the screen it will take you into the consultation itself.

If you prefer to complete the consultation on hard copy the full consultation document can be downloaded from:

Craft Night Thursday & Coffee in the Classroom Saturday

Craft Night will be on as usual on Thursday 6th February 2025 from 7 – 9pm, all are welcome.

Coffee in the classroom will be on again this Saturday February 8th from 10:30 – 12:30, your supervisor for this week is Chris Henwood, all are welcome.

QR Code: The Scottish Government managed to to get the QR code wrong on the R100 poster sent out earlier this week, hopefully the one below now works correctly. Please do fill in the evaluation, it’s an opportunity for you to express your satisfaction or otherwise with the level of Broadband service we receive in Struan.

R100 Broadband Evaluation

For those that do not know, R100 is the Scottish Government programme for rolling out superfast (or better) broadband to 100% of the Scottish population. “Superfast” is 30Mb/s download and 15Mb/s upload (something many of us can only dream of). Struan is certainly a candidate for the programme but has yet to be scheduled into it, and there does not seem to be much prospect of it in the near future. We would encourage you to follow the link in the poster below and complete the survey.

Dunvegan Community Action Plan

Dunvegan Community Trust are are currently working on a Community Action plan for the Dunvegan CC area, and would like to give neighbouring CC areas the opportunity to respond too, especially since the Dunevgan School catchment area includes Struan, and we might be able to coordinate some form of community transport in the future. The survey can be found here.

Stone blasting Glen VicAskill 29th January

This note is in relation to the access track maintenance RJ McLeod are currently undertaking at Glen Vic Askill.

We have been informed that RJ McLeod will need to blast some stone on location. This work is planned to go ahead this week, on Wednesday 29 January. There will be two short blasts about 10 minutes apart, at around lunch time (exact timing is weather dependant). All the required safety measures will be put in place and a siren will announce each blast.

Please get in touch with any questions.

Best wishes,

Maren
