Consolidation of Struan Community email lists

We are in the process of consolidating the Community Action Plan email list with the Struan Community Web site list, and also adding in those who expressed an interest to be kept informed, from the Struan Community Development Group. You are receiving this as an email because you have subscribed to one of those lists. While this process is going on we apologise if you receive a post from more than one of the lists, hopefully this will not happen more than once or twice. You will continue to receive posts from the Struan Community web site, including Community Action Plan, Community Council and Community Trust Matters and information about other activity and events in Struan. If you do not wish to receive any further posts please click the unsubscribe link at the end of the email or reply to this email asking to be removed from the list.

Struan Community Skips – Important Notice

When disposing of anything in the community skip it is essential that you ensure it does not contain Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). POPs are found in the flame-retardant chemicals of upholstered materials so the following are not allowed to be put in the skip:

  • sofas
  • sofa beds
  • armchairs
  • kitchen and dining room chairs
  • stools
  • footstools
  • home office chairs
  • futons
  • bean bags
  • floor cushions, and sofa cushions.

This includes any component made of or containing leather, synthetic leather, other fabric, or foam.

If any such items are found in the skip, then the Community Council will have to pay an extra £320/ton (i.e about £1000 ) for the entire skip to be disposed of as contaminated waste. If this happens there will be no further skips so if in doubt leave it out!

The notice from Bowman with details about the above can be seen here:

The State of Struan’s roads

The state of Struan’s roads was discussed at the recent Community Council Meeting. Although many potholes have been filled and some resurfacing done, there are still many potholes and dangerously uneven patches of road in need of repair. You may be aware that additional funds were made available for repairs this year but next year the current plan is for the budget to return to the previous level of circa £500,000 for Skye and it was this level of funding that allowed the roads to get into the state they have been in. We were advised by our Highland Council Rep. that the most appropriate action we can take is to continue to report all issues formally to the Highland Council. This can be done through the Highland Council web site on the following link:

https://www.highland.gov.uk/info/20005/roads_and_pavements/96/roadside_problems

Alternatively, there is an App called Fixmystreet.com that you can download to your phone which allows you to easily pinpoint your location on a map, photograph problems and report them. It will then automatically send the details you report, including pictures, on to the appropriate Council or responsible body.

https://www.fixmystreet.com/

The Struan Community Council would encourage you to report and re-report all road related issues on a regular basis.
